Yachts hit by Red Funnel ferry

From the article the ferry rammed a number of moored boats so it depends if you think the ferry should be running or not.

The local hack must have waited years to write this, my bold:

Cowes RNLI have confirmed that the Red Funnel ferry ploughed through the moorings of a catamaran and several Daring Class yachts, sending several of the Darings adrift.

I hope not too much damage is done.

+1 But I always assumed Red Funnel maintained sufficient working practices and equipment on the bridge to prevent straying so far outside its normal route. The inquiry will be interesting if it's made public.

I think it would have hit moorings before that first large alteration of course.
It's quite normal for ferries to keep operating in fog.
Anyone moving needs to be listening to the right VHF channel.
The ferries do have radar. It is surprising they got so far out of the channel. What time was low water? I'd have thought it fairly shallow where most of the Darings live?

at 04:40 the predicted height would have been approx 1 metre. http://www.ukho.gov.uk/easytide/eas...aspx?Display=CSLiQ5Df0ZzoYUoysvIAUi2EvJTnQspz

The Port hand post and tide gauge at the soutwest corner of the small boat channel seems to have met with a bit of an accident in the last 24 hours.
Thats opposite the Redjet terminal about in line with the position before the one I've put the time on, The 0441 position is well and truly in the small boat channel

I'm wondering how they normally cope in fog. Difficult to see how it could have gone so wrong, if they're used to working in it.
