Yachts and lightning strikes

Hello Shakey

I had the same thoughts regarding Dulcibella's description of the static etc.

I remember hearing an account of some children who were highly amused by their hair standing on end during a storm. They had been photographing each other when a tre was struck very close by.

Sounds like Dulcibella may have had a close escape

Regards
Cameron

Hiya Cameron,

yeah I've heard the rumours too that the first sign of you're about to be hit by lightning is that your hair stands on end.

There's also a classic photo of a lightning strike to a tree that shows a very faint lightning type trail leading upwards from a nearby telephone pole. The lightning 'chose' the tree not the pole.

So yes, it sounds like Dulcibella had a very close escape indeed!

The US boat I used to have didn't have metal sea-cocks and skin fittings, thus they weren't bonded but I don't know if that is typical.
