yachtmaster offshore exam

When I did mine I filled in a log book using info from the boat's logs and signed them myself for the times I was skipper.
If your son has sailed with you on your boat why not do the same??
cheers

The RYA requires a number of miles experience before you can do the exam. What kind of proof do they need / accept?
Reason for asking is that my son has sailed with me ever since he was born, but he doesn't have anything like his own logbook or so.
Any thoughts?

Mileage in command was the requirement when I took mine.

Don't think it is now although you do need 5 x 60 mile passages - 2 in command 2 at night.

Personally I think the mileage is a bit crazy. One person who has been across the channel a couple of times in company does a transatlantic, Caribbean to Azores, Azores to Falmouth, Falmouth to Solent as a passenger type crew qualifies.

I want a commercial endorsement for my YM, to drive a COP 2 workboat. I only have YM theory. The MCA thought that the RYA would be able to nod me through given my experience, but when I rang them they only wanted to sign me up for buying the practical. I will have to do the fishing skipper 5 day, which the MCA regards as superior to the YM, (Except that YM is internationally recognised) on which my experience nods me through. Unless anyone knows different.....

It depends why you need it and what type of vessel you intend to work on.
If the fishing one is sufficient and quicker and easier(from a scheduling point of view) to get seams like a no brainer.

If you intend to stay in a working boat capacity, get the higher rated fishing certificate.

I you are contemplating moving into the professional yacht industry do the yacht certificate.

Qualifying is the easy bit, passing the exam with limited experience in charge will be a lot harder.
