I am off tomorrow to take my Yachtmaster practical exam. Has anyone who has done recently got any tips? How long does the exam take? What do you get asked to do?

Dont get flustered if you get something wrong, take a deep breath say why you fluffed it and then show that you do know.

Going down to Plymouth to the TopCat sailing school and sailing a Beneteau Blue II catamaran. Then take the exam in Falmouth on the Thursday. Feeling very nervous right now!

It's nothing like as bad as you may think. Generally the examiners are almost human and are not there to catch you out. Relax and enjoy yourself.

Glad to hear the examiners are OK. The weather forecast for the day is for thunder storms, so I will need all the sympathy I can get.

it will be a long day, so make sure you keep the examiner fed and watered along with the crew.

Good luck.
Yes do take plenty of warm drinks and food.. always a good sign.
My exam took almost 24 hours.
As soon as you get on board ,check the yacht out ie loose pins,enough life jackets , safety equipment.. radio check , etc.
I agree , the examiners are there to help out.. I failed
miserably to find a mark at about 0300, another candidate ( 2 of us did it together) failed. So we admitted our error and asked the examiner what we did wrong... he tried to find the mark .. and couldn't. We all fouund out later , it had been washed ashore.
You will make it.....
