"...ministers float plan to impose 'water tax' on sailors..."

" ..one option being considered is.. a license is bought at the same time as the boat..."

Would this push up the price of 2nd hand boats ?

i wondered how long it would take them to find a way of taxing 'middle-class' hobbies. they tried previously with the 'luxury' 25% vat rate. amazing they haven't found a way of taking away duty free diesel.

can we now expect taxes on horses, golf balls, shotguns etc.

perhaps the other lot will get back in and redress the balance with taxes on footballs, pigeons & greyhounds.

Thought we were already heavily enough taxed Income tax and NI even before we come to spend, then Corporation Tax (as part of product cost) and VAT on what we do spend, would'nt mind so much if there was responsibility on Govt spending but when its spent on defence in misguided attempts to enhance TB's world status at the expense of education and infrastructue then there is something far wrong with our priorities!

Bloody politicians!

What a surprise, they want to tax us a bit more. In 5 years their total tax revenue has just about doubled, but what service has improved with any increased spending. All that seems to happen is that there are more and more civil servants building bigger and bigger empires with better pensions than most self employed individuals could ever hope to afford.

Re-read it - It\'s a very confused article

How can you seperate harbour dues from yotties using and paying for lighthouses or offshore buoys? We all have GPS for free from the USA, and GPS obviates all State of the Ark redundant lighthouses.

The Independent article is old hat - There was a thread posted here in Scuttlebutt about this last summer ie the consultation paper.

If Gordy Frown and his bunch of parasites need to tax boaters then all they have to do is to take a tax paid jolly across to the USA to see how they can impose a council tax as an addended property tax on boats ....

More worrying is Gordy Frowns parasites paper on applying VAT on house sales (also in last Sat's Indy) ie sale price stamp duty CGT VAT @ 5% on the lot....

On May 1st some of us have a vote ... Let's vote with our XXX's to Gordy Frown and kick the buggers out.
