Yachting monthly ad for iPad app

I have noticed a Yachting Monthly ad for an iPad app popping up when I use my iPad, ok fair enough but they have a large X which looks like it closes the pop up, it doesn't it opens up apple app store, they have hidden the close x above the large X.

It's neither clever or funny and in fact in my opinion sharp practice and irritating.

Anyone else seen it.

It is quite common amongst pop up adds now - there is a smaller x just above the big one to close the pop up.

Yeah both of the above, irritating and and sharp practice!

Add in my builders digits on my iPad and the chances of closing it rather than opening it are slim!

Yes, annoying isn't it.

One thing this YM site is carp about is pop up ads which block content - and this fake X approach just leads one to assume the advertiser is unprofessional and not trustworthy

Probably a syndicated ad - ie; they didn't invent they 'false x' but I agree they should make it clear to the 'middle person' they don't want to be associated with this. Advertising that cheeses people off is unlikely to be successful...

I don't get it, but web sites that say they have an app every time you visit them are a PITA. Mind you, this forum is pretty carp on an iPad, so perhaps it would be worthwhile.
