I know of a yacht in the North West completely and utterly without markings, name anything. It's not a cheap old thing, in fact utterly the opposite, it's an up market, relatively new 38ft racing craft with pedigree.
Can anyone suggest reasons for it being unmarked or perhaps someone knows the boat?

My boat is similarly anonymous but that is mainly because I can't be bothered to fork out 3 quid each for letters or whatever it is to highlight the name on my transom. It has it's benefits....
I like sailing anonymously & it helps if you make enemy's or want to keep a low profile ;-)

A lot of racing boats carry sponsorship advertising on them now, maybe it's in between sponsors?

Pretty rare less than 40 feet.

Does it have no markings on its sails?
If it has no sail numbers it's not a race boat....

I sailed from Inverness to Portsmouth on a friend's boat with no visible name. The customs spotted us off East Anglia and took a very close interest.

Presumably unmarked means either unregistered or not complying with the conditions of her registration. So would it be illegal to enter a foreign port in an unmarked vessel?
