Whilst taking part in our club's annual race around Sheppey on Sunday I overheard a radio conversation about a yacht that had sunk about half a mile west of Harty Ferry. From what I understand the boat had been lying to anchor for a couple of weeks and possibly called Papilon. A local fisherman was marking the wreck by tying buoys to the mast. The Coast Guard didn't seem to know anything about it, so presumably it must have gone down during the strong winds on Saturday or Sunday. When we passed it at around low tide only the top half of the mast was showing, so I guess it will completely disappear at high water.

I think it was assumed that no one had been aboard as the fisherman said he hadn't seen anyone on board in the time it had been there.

Gosh, right on my doorstep.
I was on a club mooring west of the causeway from 1500-1700 on Saturday, nothing unusual to be seen then.
'Papillon' rings a bell but can't place it - not one of our club members though. Planning to go and fiddle with my boat today (if the rain stops) so will take a look over the sea wall at Harty.

Been to have a look at LW. It's quite a way west of the causeway, and west of all the large white club mooring buoys, position given is 51° 21'.27N 000° 52'.75E.
Been asking around, owner as yet hasn't come forward, it seems. We thought maybe it was a Queenborough boat, there was one of that name there but apparently it was sold away last year.
Gin, how do you know she's a Leisure 27 ?

One of our members, also a member of Conyer where he keeps his boat says Papillon belongs to a member at QYC (at least I think that's what he said as I inadvertently deleted his e-mail this morning immediately after reading it).

He is going to make further enquiries
