Whilst taking part in our club's annual race around Sheppey on Sunday I overheard a radio conversation about a yacht that had sunk about half a mile west of Harty Ferry. From what I understand the boat had been lying to anchor for a couple of weeks and possibly called Papilon. A local fisherman was marking the wreck by tying buoys to the mast. The Coast Guard didn't seem to know anything about it, so presumably it must have gone down during the strong winds on Saturday or Sunday. When we passed it at around low tide only the top half of the mast was showing, so I guess it will completely disappear at high water.
I think it was assumed that no one had been aboard as the fisherman said he hadn't seen anyone on board in the time it had been there.
