Hi
I have just removed a volvo md2b engine and have installed a thorneycroft 90, I am having problems with the shaft alignment. When running the engine with the shaft turning the gearbox vibrates, I have a standard flexible joint where the shaft joins. Can anybody advise if a cv joint would be better? And where could i get one?

Regards Lee

Could be a number of things. Just replacing the engine should not have any direct effect - indeed the Thorneycroft is likely to be smoother. The starting point is making sure the engine is correctly aligned, that is the two halves of the coupling meet squarely all the way round. Texts on installing engines cover the procedure if you are not sure. Adjustment is through the engine mounts that can be moved up and down and from side to side.

Once that is right and the vibration still exists, the obvious culprits are bent shaft, worn cutless bearings, out of balance prop or weak engine mounts.

Hope this helps

Something that is often important and frequently overlooked .... It is important that the engine is level (left to right) so that the engine mountings are reasonabley equally loaded.
