Does anyone have any experience of yacht purchase through these schemes? On the face of it, a gucci yacht bought and paid for over a short period of time sounds great but does it work? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif A young family at the moment means that frequent use of any boat is beyond us, a couple of weeks a year would be great and no upkeep charges sounds ok /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif wheres the catch? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The boat will be fairly worn out when the charter end of the deal is finished, I can't see the value in these schemes for the punter large companies don't give anything away free.

They give me the same warm feeling as time-share. While your family is young it may be best to charter for couple of weeks. Do this for a couple of years to see if it is OK for you as a family. Here or the Med. There are lots of established firms in the business. The worst thing you can do is get locked into one of these types of schemes and find the family aint happy. That means the kids as well as SWMBO.

Not all programmes are the same

Boats within our fleet are maintained to high standards, with owners getting as much, or as little, use as they want. We do not offer any "guaranteed income" schemes so your boats wear and tear will be in proportion to the amount of work it does and therefore how much you earn.

As some of the other Forum members have said, there is no such thing as a "free lunch", whichever scheme you look at, you will be paying for maintainance and upkeep somewhere along the way.

An alternative to owning would be to just charter a yacht. We would happily look at discounting our normal rates for anyone considering a number of charters a year.

Should you (or anyone else) be interested in fnding out more about charter management, or regular charter deals please drop us a private message.

Cheers,

The Team at Victory & Haslar

There is a prominent forumite who bought their boat to go into charter with a big company..... and withdrew it after a few months because of the hassle, taking the financial hit in the process.

IMO, you either buy the boat to love and enjoy it, or to get a financial return. It is virtually impossible to do both.
