A private members bill has been introduced to ban Yacht racing, it is apparently perceived as being cruel to monkeys and gorillas, socially divisive, sexist, racist and dangerous to the few coral reefs on British shores. It is unlikely it will become law this parliament but if sufficient support is attained it may well feature in the next labour manifesto.

So if 1800 boats want to go round the Isle of Wight on say the third weekend in June, will that be okay if we promise not to race and not go too fast ?

And if some like minded yotties just happen to turn up somewhere off Cowes in the first week of August , could we perhaps organise some sort of cruise in company around some buoys in the Solent ? May be divided up into similar classes of boat and we could set off at regular intervals ?

Only if you all wear bright red oilies and have a pack of trained killer sharks so you can go jetski hunting.

You can imagine yacht racing being driven ' underground'

Like minded yacht owners may organize ' impromptu races' , start and finish lines to be notified over mobiles where people turn up at a particular place at a designated time and the race begins without the knowledge of the authorities. Look outs posted around the Solent just in case the boys in blue get wind of it.

The alternative to this is that people would have to get on planes and travel to the Caribbean to places like Antigua and the BVI's and race there.

How unacceptable is that ?

What, Kind of like "The Fast The Furious"?
Perhaps we could make a film about illegal underground yacht racing, "The Slow and the Slovenly" or "The Boyz from the Beneteauz" featuring souped up boats with essex boy add ons and underwater neon lights?

Of course we would have to race at night , close inshore so the 'groupies' can get a good view of the action possiblly from Cowes or Lepe Beach

Instead of nitrous in jection kits we could have secret 'asymetric kites' , fluorescent colours of course, to give extra oomph when overtaking.

Wads of cash available, winner takes all.....and gets the girl as well

Seriously thou, some muppet up in the Common House will come up with this idea, or try banning sponsorship by the drink companies 'cause it encourages people to become alcoholics !!!!

Sorreee!

Before any boat may leave harbour under the new Control and collision reg. you will need submit your risk assessment in triplicate, and await clearance from the Commissioners of Legaility and Otiose Travel.

there is no truth in the mailicious rumours propogated by the class enemies that no consents can be given until noon on any day, so long as it is clear yours will be the only craft that is travelling on its own you will be refused (Health and safety and other risk factors from singlehanded sailing) well before then.

You will need travel in company with a yacht crewed by the Commissioners Rapid Action Plan.

You knoow it makes sense, and that as a caring and paternal government we have no thought but your safety.
