We are planning to buy a boat abroad via a charter management company. Has anyone got experience/hints/tips/advice which may be helpful to us?

There have been some lively discussion about this at YBW, suggest you use the search facility but be prepared for some polarised opinions.

My view is why suffer 5 years of limited access to your yacht and the lottery factor of the final hand over condition when instead you can take your pick from the Sunsail fleet disposal brokerage for about the same money.

Who or why does anybody want to buy a 5yr old ex Sunsail yacht?
Seems to me that boatyards are full of much more interesting boats.......

Don't know?

BavBenJan churn them out and people keep buying them.

Take me for example, I am hoping to buy a 30 year old British classic yacht, plonk it in a boat yard and spend the next 18 months on a restoration. Then after a total spend equivalent to a 35ft Sunsail disposal I plan to keep the yacht in the cold cloudy Solent and pay 2x the cost of a Turkish berth.

Err how do I stop a cheque?

never forget....

that the value of an ex-charter boat is a lot less than one privately owned. it's amazing how many punters use concrete docks as a convenient stopping mechanism.

Re: never forget....

You haven't seen the latest Sunsail yacht then? They have a beautiful s/steel plate fixed to the bow ... wouldn't shame a HR/Najad etc!!
I hope the Greeks and Turks are preparing for this onslaught!!
