Yacht of the year : JPK 45 FC

A sufficient number of people disagree and so it was elected.

I'm constantly amazed - how can you have a boat of the year that is basically unaffordable for the majority of yachtsmen/women. Who are all these people who vote for such offerings - if its for, really, long distance cruising what proportion is that niche as part of the whole - its a bit like voting for a Porsche as car of the year - so what?

Maybe I live on the wrong planet and read too many threads bemoaning the absence of new entrants to sailing ;(

Boat of the year eh.

Reminds me of one of Paul Sample's Ogri cartoons in Bike magazine wher a keen young man is shopping for a new bike. The salesman wants to tuck him up with a Norton Commando 750 when the guy wants a Kawasaki.

" Kawasaki 900 sir-think of the wobbles at high speed. What about this beauty, the Norton Commando 750-just been voted Bike of the Year for the past two weeks........................"

Oh dear, what have you started? Bringing old bikes into the boaty wold will get all the old codgers wound up.

Noton: Leaky go-faster long keeler
Triumph: Moodies and Westerlies
BSA: Anderson 22
Ariel: Those hankering after some sort of square rigger
etc etc etc

Thank the lord you didn't mention MGs or 3.8 Jags!

My thoughts too. I don't think it is so hard to produce a "stylish" and fast 45-footer and cram the usual necessities in. What we need are practical, good looking and affordable boats in the 24-30ft range which are durable enough to feed the second-hand market in the future.. Something like the Vega perhaps, but modern.

What a bunch of grumpies as always! I don't know the specific award this JPK45 won, but generally all the yacht awards are done in a variety of classes - and some are bigger / long distance boats such as this one, other classes are for cheaper family boats (e.g. Hanse 315 in a recent European Yacht of Year)

But in the real world there are plenty of buyers able and willing to spend substantial money for an exceptional boat like the JPK. Even more of course buying Hanse 315s and similar.
But very few punters willing to spend a lot of money on a new 24-30 footer as most new buyers want something a bit bigger, and if price the issue plenty of smaller second hand boats.

Great to see JPK innovating and creating such successful boats, a rare success of winning in the racetrack and now more fast cruiser oriented.
