Four years after winning the "Voile" YOTY with their 38' boat JPK have won again with their 45' fast cruiser.

Modern construction, fast with good weather protection. What's not to like?

Very nice .............. but wheres the wood.? I did spot a couple of token bits I think. To much plastic inside but I liked the looks and shape of the hull, went well.

Haven't seen one in the GRP, but looks good. I like a lot about it except the torpedo keel, items I think are better left to race boats.

Great boat - bet it is fantastic to sail, very fast but stable at speed

That astonishingly ugly fixed dog house, to start with.

The fixed dog house is an option. But some of the owners will likely be taking the boat long distance offshore, not just hopping around the Solent or the Med, in which case the fixed doghouse may be very valuable for north of the Shetlands.
We saw lots of smallish French yachts in Stornoway, having already travelled a fair distance north to get there. With the forecast rough, the U.K. boats were tending to stay in harbour - whereas the French (and Netherlands) voyagers who had already reached here set off into the weather for a "short hop" to the Faroes.

Ability to cover distance safely offshore under asymmetric and autopilot at 12+ knots is more important to some than wooden interiors.
Great innovative boat, but not for a typical coastal cruiser when an AWB is ideally suited

That's Santa sorted.
Have told him to ship one over to me, absolutely smashing weapon to go cruising with.
Flaming won't be impressed with that snuffer!

That's a trend to get used to. All the Vendée Globe boats now have them.

Unless of course you are masochistic enough to enjoy getting cold and wet on night watches...

Also look how successful the Boréal boats have been with a slightly different version.

As far as the light-coloured interior is concerned I have got used to the elm interior on my Feeling and now it's depressing to be inside a boat with mahogany or dark teak interior - not to mention that horrible stripey sapele.

Don't know about you but I have no plans to go coastal cruising (as done by probably 95% of correspondents here) in a Vendee or for that matter a Boreal. Suggests this JPK is in fact a rather more niche craft than 'boat of the year' might imply.

A sufficient number of people disagree and so it was elected.

You can get cold and wet coastal cruising too.
