Yacht names...

Seems no time since we last had the discussion on boat names. My favourite of that time (can't remember who posted it) was the boat that cost a fortune being called "Arm and a Leg". All very well until you have to call "Thames Coastguard, this is Arm and a Leg over".

I once met a nice young sailor who told she had named her Mirror dinghy what she did because she kept falling out of it.

Her name was Ruth and the Mirror was called Ruthless...

I knew identical twins who raced a Mirror called "Twin Tub". My all-time favourite boat name, though, is still the Mirror which lived at Tighnabruiach many years ago called "Maid Freya Kitt".

Yacht Names

There's a very clear division between the macho aggressive names that racers give their sailing boats and the names that non racers do. No doubt "prime Evil" was a racer.

My two favourites are
VLAD THE IMPALER - on a bowsprit class dayboat; and
VENOM - on a large racing yacht berthed in the Medina.

Saw a very large and expensive motorboat in Sardinia called 'The Devil'.

Large rib on the stern 'tender to The Devil'

I have seen several Optimist dinghies over the years called "Opside-down", usually painted upside down. Also "Ops a Daisy" and "Bottoms Op". Seems to be a theme running through all of them but I can't quite put my finger on it.

BTW my boat's called "Daisy Grace" simply because that was my mother's name and it sounded a good boaty sort of name. How did everyone else choose their boat's name?

Had to reject all the female names HWMBO suggested as I suspected they were not just random names! Chose "Zig-Zag" in the end for obvious reasons (sailing boat), plus it's short, easy to say/spell, and as far as I know none of his previous girlfriends were called that. :p

Boat names

Afriend bought a boat called Q2 apparently it was originally called FarQ2 but the club insisted ona name change. Another racing dinghy was called BlueOver very apt.
Certainly the name on a boat says a lot about the person who named it. I chose to keep the name onmy boat when I bought it. I can blame the original owner for the name. olewill

I have. Need to make sure your SSR entry is updated and keep enough records to show a trail from your bill of sale to current reality to allow easy sale.

Names I have seen that made me smile: "Burnadebt" and "Bad Sail The Sinner"

Yes , a prize one I saw was "Our Soul"- it was a mobo, but said more about the owner I think!! That name would also be an interesting Ch16 call too.
