Need full British registry (ie old blue book) to do it with a UK company. I know that Royal Bank of Scotland and Lombard are very active, but no direct experience.
From my experience (recent) the RoyalBank of Scotland don't have a Marine Loan dept. Try Bank of Scotland 023 8033 3467 if phoning from UK. Name of Trudi Fuller.
Good luck
we have just completed our first marine mortgage with lombard marine.
they have been very through, helpful and very friendly.
couldnt reccomend them highly enough.

be aware that some marine finance companies may not like the idea of you living aboard. IMHO, better to not raise the question in the first place. The contract for Barclay's Marine Finance is silent on the subject but when I was looking around for a marine mortage their sales dept said 'no can do' when I mentioned I would be living aboard some of the time. Having a UK postal address will also be required.
Many thanks for the input!
I spoke with a lady from Barclays Marine mortgage this morning and she laid down a few of the "difficulties" with mortgaging a US import vessel - e.g. must be in EU waters before payment, must be deregistered in US registry before payment, must have "Barclays conformant" proof of title etc. etc...
So I'm leaving it and buying what I can outright!
Thanks again.
Jimboaw,
Noticed you live in Florida - near the baot I would go for.
See Bollman Yacht "featured boat": http://www.bollmanyachts.com/
Now, you tell me if you wouldn't go for her if you were over half way there?
Hey, but thanks for the advise and... you're probably right!
just contemplating going in this direction. i.e Boat is in US and US registered, home is in UK and not ready to sell for around another 18 months or so. Thought about purchasing boat now and paying off mortgage when house sold and moving aboard. Trying to wade through all the ins and out of buying and bringing the boat to the med for a few years. Wife is US citizen but living in the UK, would we be able to perhaps get a US mortgage for the boat. I think perhaps not. If boat has to be UK registered, then this is just another pain.
