I'm halfway (I hope) through the restoration of a 98 year old yawl which was sort of built on the lines of a Falmouth Quay Punt in the South West. She's in Maldon and I reckon to have a couple of years more work before she'll be back on the water; the aim is for 2012, her centenary. In the meantime I travel from North Herts most weekends. I'm a semi-retired teacher working three days a week and hopefully I'll get to spend a bit more time on her after the summer when I finally fully retire.
My question is whether there is a friendly sailing club not too far away from the Maldon area who'll take someone who, in theory, doesn't have a boat, but would like to meet up with, hopefully, an old gaffer or two who'd be willing to have an occasional extra crew member (my previous sailing friend, who owned an AWB on the south coast, has now given up sailing) to show him the ways of a long keeler and something of the East Coast estuaries.
Any suggestions?
