As is policy here, I must report on the service provided by a company! GJW direct. I insured with them back in April when I moved Barella/Bumblefish to Brighton. Following the pre-purchase survey I had a lot to do. Almost there! However, one thing completed was the fitting of a new spray hood. As apparently happens in Brighton, one day a hole appeared in the hood, possibly courtesy of some local lads on the cliffs! I informed the yard and the police, a chap alongside me had 2 holes! I contacted GJW, they told me to get some quotes, I did, then I screwed up and mis-read the quotes. I had the hood replaced by the more expensive company. I sent a letter to GJW informing them of my error and suggesting that they just pay the smaller quote minus my excess. The replacement was nearly 3 times the cost of my first premium!!!!! A very nice chap telephoned me today to say they would take care of the whole fee, no excess as I was in my own berth/marina, and wishing me a merry Christmas, season of goodwill and all that. As far as customer service goes they now have me for life! Good on you and well done!

Noticed last night that over the three years I've had my boat, the insurance with SAGA (yes, I know, I don't look old enough) has gone up from £75 to £135 pa.

24' yacht, in water from end March to end October, value £4000, South Cornwall. No claims.

Is this increase the norm?

I've found over the years that it's well the time to compare and then go back to your original insurance company with a cheaper quote. I have also switched to get a cheaper deal but only between the bigger/batter companies (you do get what you pay for in insurance ) GJW are my insurers and invariably they will reduce my initial policy fee if I press them. Good luck!

Hi

When I first got my Achilles 6 seasons ago I was paying £80 fully comp including
racing risks. I am now paying £180 for this same cover and this is without having made any claims.

Regards

Andrew
