Hi folks

Google has failed me in this respect, I'm currently restoring my Westerly from top to bottom and I'm looking for insurance that would cover her while she's on the dry.
All of the companies want to survey her but she's in such a state I doubt they'd accept the survey, which I understand, but it's a changeable state!

I basically want to cover her while she's on the dry just in case something happens. eg fire, someone driving into her, etc etc.

I can get this for my classic car really easily! But struggling with the boat.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, you don't say what part of the globe you are on.

I faced the same problem some years ago, 1937 wooden boat being rebuilt by local yard. I just phoned the insurer of my existing boat, N&G, explained the situation and they agreed to cover, with “normal” cover including racing to start once she was launched.

Thanks for the replies folks.

I'm based on the River Tamar currently in South West UK. I've tried to update my profile but for some reason it says I'm not allowed to currently! :D

I'll give a few companies a ring and see what can be found.

Welcome to the forum.

As you are restoring a Westerly, you should join the Westerly Owners Association. The special policy negociated with Navigator and General is worth having and comes with extras and a 10% discount. As a Westerly owner, I can say I have asked a number of questions to N&G and they have all been covered, and that included the renovations I did to my boat. Do not be worried about a survey as it will also provide you with pointers on the most urgent problems for your boat - many you may not know about. The insurance company need to know exactly what they are insuring.

Have you tried these guys? there's a quote form on their homepage! Thumbs up from me - compare yacht insurance

I'd contact y Yacht insurance. I arranged some insurance with them last year, for a customer who had bought a boat that needed some work. Although some issues were raised in the survey that made the boat a bad risk whilst it was afloat they covered it 3rd party to get it moved and then fully comp' once it was hauled out and being worked on, subject to some exclusions due to survey requirements, such as not using the gas system with badly corroded pipes !
