I guess youb really must keep a look out even if you are Irish. There have been similar incidents one a few years back where a commercial fishing boat around 60 ft on auto pilot sliced into a largish dinghy anchored fishing outside Fremantle harbour with loss of life. Or our own John Sanders in his record breaking solo triple circumanavigation without stopping ran into a fishing boat (ship) about 1000 miles south of Falklands with no real damage (glanced off) You can't take an autopilot to court for your defence. regards will

Interested to know how the fishing boat sustained damage below the waterline as the yacht rode up into the wheel house.

There shouldn't be a shortage of credible witnesses though.

it even happens when the watchkeepers are awake. an anchored fishing dinghy (with black ball hoisted) was run down by a raggie in portsmouth harbour a few years ago. as the yottie passed he screamed 'power gives way to sail' and carried on leaving the dinghy adrift wit a severed anchor cable.

It happened to a mate of mine, fishing at anchor, this yacht sailed strait into him.
