Yacht adrift - Orwell today

I was working on "Josephine" at Levington today when at about 12:15 I saw a yacht drifting downwind, past the trot moorings off Levington towards felixstowe.

Masthead sloop, 32 ish ft long, Westerly maybe, difficult to tell at that range.
She was still attached to her mooring buoy so its pretty obvious what had happened.

I ran up to the HM at the office at Suffolk Yacht Harbour who had also just spotted it and had contacted the coastguard.
A couple of brave/foolish/mad guys had jumped into the yard boat and were leaving the marina in hot pursuit in the gusting 35knt blow.

I was then called away so never actually found out what the result was.

Just (Friday morning) had a call from SYH - a call I had been dreading all week.
Our neighbour broke her mooring on Tuesday and 'has been in contact with' Guapa.
Marina staff did manage to recover the boat, but were unable to check on Guapa at the time though from the shoreline she 'seems OK' - but they can see 'something hanging from our stern'. Damage to our windvane selfsteering?
Amending travel plans (was to travel to France this evening) so I can go and check on the boat asap.
Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear of the possible damage to Guapa, fingers crossed for you.

Update: Guapa's now on a pontoon for winter.
Some scuff marks starboard side, bow roller may have taken a knock, otherwise the old girl is in fine fettle.
One of the advantages of sailing yachting's equivalent of a Tiger tank.
The boat that his us came off a lot worse: inflatable dinghy is a write off, davits all bent, some bent stanchions and one guard-wire will need to be replaced.

A big thank you to the SYH marina crew went went out out Tuesday to recover our drifting neighbour.
The conditions must have been horrendous - 'above and beyond' and all that.
Enjoy the beers. :encouragement:
