Yes, had a nice phone call today from Barrie who I have known for many years both professionally and personally. A real character who will be missed in the industry.

I am glad Claire and Helen will be continuing, both excellent.

Enjoy your retirement Barrie, you have certainly earnt it and thanks for all your help with our clients over the years.

Topsail have handled my travel insurance for many years. They were the only ones who would cover SWMBO and I on an Atlantic circuit at reasonable terms. When I put a claim in for emergency travel home to see my dying mother, they suggested that I could claim my partner's expenses too.

As far as I know it was a Brexit protection measure that he set up a French insurer, it was a regulatory issue not an issue of cover.
I was about to say the same thing. Pretty certain it was specifically mentioned in one of their communications. Lack of certainty regarding situation post-Brexit meant they pretty much had to set up that company as a safeguard.

Well i requested a quote from MS Amlin

Price not unreasonable, somewhat higher than last year with Y but i suspect had Y continued it would have gone up

The kicker is that they require an out of the water survey. That was the major benefit of Y, being prepared to insure on the basis of an owner's declaration

Since it's almost certain that this will now be the situation from any available insurer, and given that ive just been saddled with a four figure bill to repair my van after some scrote tried to break into it, it's decidedly iffy whether we'll have the money to cover the increased cost in time to get back afloat.

Three missed seasons will be getting beyond a joke though so we'll have to see if we can find a way but any more unexpected nasty surprises and it'll be game over ... maybe permanently

Bru, I hope you get back on the water soon. The alternative of watching the Saints must be a very painful option ;)
I also obtained a quote from Haven Knox Johnston, about 20% more than Y, with the same requirement you came across for an out of water survey, not sure if the one I had done 5 years ago covers that. I also got a quote from Topsail, 60%+ more than my renewal with Y, which is due now. Hard to make sense of it all.

Same here.
The quote I got from Topsail was over 50% more expensive than what I paid last year to YYI.
Also being stroppy about a boat kept permanently abroad.
I think I will be changing insurers.

It was bad enough with a 30% increase last year from Y, and the syndicate would no longer allow the boat to remain on a swinging mooring for the winter, costing me another £230 for being alongside a pontoon lower down. Seriously wonder if I should just go with 3rd party insurance. Premiums will soon be 10 %+ of sum insured.

That's strange, we're on a swing mooring in service 365 and no 30% increase last month when I renewed. OTOH, GJW wouldn't quote.
