Are there diesels out there which don't sound like a cement mixer filled with hammers and broken glass falling down a staircase? XUDs are hardly silent, but they're more refined than their contemporaries.

Have a listen to any french diesel older than 10 years old and its almost amusing, if ever in france its all you can hear as walk around the towns.
The smaller ones are even worse the 1.4/5s
