Remember the diesel superboat featured on top gear?

It seems there weren't many buyers around for the leisure version, so the manufacturer is trying to develop a military version instead, and recently tested a prototype at Hythe, with a gun that lifts up out of the bow. Not surprisingly, the target markets are in areas affected by piracy, drugrunning, etc.

Only problem Nick, the drug runners are probably the only ones with the money to buy/run one lol

How funny were the CND remarks, they really need to get a grip.

I saw the military one at a show last year. It managed to take a glancing blow on the wall at docklands at around 30 kts with some VIP's on board.

apparently it "hit something underwater" which caused it to change course suddenly! strange that the many teams of divers that went down after couldnt find anything!

To be fair, after the impact damage was limited so it must be a pretty strong lay up!!

Its not that far fetched tho. Fabio Buzzi make some pretty interesting craft for military applications!

As a boy, and even a full grown man, I would have walked over naked Raquel Welches to to get a good look at a gun like that, real or not, and that goes for parts of Ms Welch as well.

The man really needs to stop being a complete berk.

Yes, they ve been just down the pontoon;one blue and the other on the hard, sort of camo colouring.Always seem to have teams of guys working on them,in logo'd clothes including what looked like a rapid lift out and engine removal/replacement on Saturday morning. I dont know quite how narrow the beam is, but its a damn skinny boat.

As a private boat it's not the most practical, but if you have the money to buy it as a toy then do you care about practicality.

As a gun boat.... well, I've never driven a gun boat so I don't know what it would be like.

Around Christmas time they were advertising for a driver / engineer to join the team.
I actually applied for the job.
Well come on, my Merry Fisher 695 cruises at 15 knots... it's similar!

Needless to say, I didn't even get a reply!!!!

Guns, unless they are small arms, need a stabilised platform. Therefore this will be one very fast gunship, with not much firepower.

Works better as a drugs runner imo. Sorry.

Correct, but that's also her limit, to some extent.
I mean, for anyone looking at a real fast toy for the occasional ride to the nearest island, there are much more insane alternatives around.
Well above 3 digits speed, I mean.
I for one, if I were considering a boat of that size just as a fast toy for daily cruises, would want it to be outrageously fast, and the XSR isn't.

Mmm, that gun rising out of the foredeck would get you a mooring space in any Riviera marina in August, no problem:)

There's always some veggie rentagob available to complain about anything. I guess he complains about Royal Navy ships entering Portsmouth harbour in case the sight of their guns frightens the peace loving yobs meditating in Gunwharf Quays

GUN WHARF Quay?
