Xplorer batteries

Does anyone know anything about these batteries? (see link) They seem a good deal and I need to replace mine.

Leisure / service deeper cycling use: look for the number of cyces each battery claims. The Average run of the mill leisure battery offers about 150 cycles, I note. But some go as far as 500 for only a little more £. Have a look at the Varta / Bosch range. Lucas and lesser brands get a poor writeup: Honest John in the Telegraph has things to say about batteries.

I only get confusing responses from dealers when asking "is this a deep cycle battery?" - some clearly are and cost a lot more, usually closed cell or gell. One response was " this one is a combination of deeper cycle and leisure, better than a starter battery" What do you make of that?

In practical terms I sense that cheaper lower spec leisure batteries are good for 3-4 seasons, then begin to lose their charge. Better units can go 2-3 seasons longer - always assuming they are re-charged regularly.

For starter batteries cold cranking ratings are a good measure. Better than 500 is desirable for a 2 lit engine.

The specifications are a bit light. I like to see a full range of specs including weight, amp hours at both 5 and 20 hour rates.

The most durability will come from 6 volt golf cart type batteries, in multiples of 2 in series. They are the champion of deep cycling for affordable batteries. Major reason is that they are made with thicker plates and better separators for an industry that demands it. The price is low because of volume compared to batteries other than starting and leisure batteries not designed and built for continuous abuse.
