I am thinking of fitting one ???

The old loo is a bit smelly and old.

My 2 young children and there friends find it very difficult to do the manual pumping thing.

Battery power is not a problem ?

I was going to replace all the hoses as well.

Anyone got any pitfalls or helpfull advice ????

I have fitted one of these. Works pretty well. However a few caveats.

The first one I fitted didn't work properly and needed to be shut off at the seacock all the time except when flushing or it would flood the boat. I know turning off is a good habit yes, but kids may forget to do it.

They send me a re-place which I refitted, and that works fine.

The instructions are pretty poor. but the key ponts are to make sure you put in a proper vented loop/syphon break.

The switch is a little flimsy ( well the little plastic screw lugs are so put it out of the way where it can't get knocked.

We initially fitted in t in the aft heads and it was a bit smelly. Then turned that into dedicated shower and moved the loo forward where it doen't smell. Very odd, but could be explained by inlet out on opposite sides of the hull in the forward compartment.

Hope helps,

Nick

Nick, your original problem was apparently a defective wet/dry valve...but replacing it doesn't really solve your problem, it only provided a "shut off" that can fail as easily as the first one did...meanwhile, your bowl will still flood with water if someone leaves it in the wet position.

The proper fix is an electric solenoid valve (essentially an electric "vented loop") in the head intake line. It's wired to the flush button, which closes the air valve to allow the intake pump to prime, opens it again to break the siphon when the flush button is released...and is also located well above the waterline so that water can't flow over it to flood the bowl when the boat is at rest.

I don't know if the installations for the XM show a solenoid valve...but you can see what it is, where it's installed and how to install it on this drawing on page 2 of the installation instructions for a Jabsco electric toilet: http://www.jabsco.com/prodInfo/overview/37010-0000_ds.pdf
