Thinking of using XM Antifoul in Black purely because you get a 3lt tin and its cheap. My other option is Blakes Broads. Its only for freshwater use. On a really tight budget, any thoughts or other suggestions?

If you are purely in freshwater, don't bother with antifoul at all?

Spent 2 years on the Thames with no antifoul. Bit of green stuff that pressure washed off easily once a year. Bigger problem was limescale

Freeport antifoul. You can pick it up over here when you are over next month. cheaper than the other brands and I will arrange to get you a discount.

Used XM last season, worked OK. Colour changed quickly though, went on as dark blue but was considerably lighter after only a month or two

slappiton.

I (now) belive that the trick with antifoul is to use cheap gear regularly, rather than really expensive stuff and hope it "performs".

Black is best, imho, cos all gunk etc "disappears" below the waterline, whereas coloured hulls show weed and goo.
