Xacti waterproof Camera - long term real world test

Well I was after a weather proof HD camera for work, to shoot the Yachting Monthly videos of the new boat tests and practical films we shoot as well as an exciting project we have planned that will need video. Obviously I work in far from idea conditions with lots of salt water around, but I don't want to have to carry all my stills kit, a laptop and two different hd video cameras.

We obviously want to improve the image quality, but we also need to improve the sound quality.

As for engineering, it would just have to be a screw in waterproof mic socket that would connect to a conventional mic socket. Just something to stop the water entering the interior of the camera

I wasn't expecting to shoot audio underwater ;)

I've used an Xacti for about three years. It makes an excellent on board camera you don't have to worry about. I use it as my travel camera as well as no one seems to notice it, it looks so unlike an ordinary camera. All the photos on my blog in my signature were taken with it. The link below shows the sort of quality it gets for stills, which I think is fine (This is heavily compressed for the web, the original is even better)

My wife finds it almost impossible to hold, she needs two hands for it. I have long fingers and find it fine, but it is different.

I just noticed that the CA100 is down in price to just £211.50 at Amazon here

Sorely tempted now, as I have the much older CA65 with only 640x480 but it has been everywhere from water rides @ Disney to messing about in boats.

Not up to Dylans excellent standards, but this is what can be done by an amateur Clicky

If you buy it from Amazon, do it via Keep Turning Left. Please.

I've just bought the Xacti CA100 to try out on this season's sailing and I could do with some help regarding video editing as I use Photoshop PSCS3, lightroom and bridge for stills. Other than upgrading my Photoshop, what are the cheap alternatives for a beginner starting out video editing on a PC? I don't want to invest very much at this point in case I decide that video is not for me.
