20 month old "waterproof" Sanyo Xacti. Fantastic, reliably splash-proof HD camcorder.

Fully immersed filming fish in the med, off a sandy beach, and she's dead...

Water ingress via the "customer accessible" seal over the card slot, etc.. Tiniest bit of grit, or a single hair, poof. Did I mention the sandy beach?

Bum, bum, bum

I have to say that I really don't like putting it under water

although I do

the seal around the door is very crucial I understand

one compensation

the replacement will be better and cheaper

Cheers, Dylan.

This was probably only the 3rd time for full immersion in the 20 months.

Are Sanyo still the best option cheap waterproof?

Low light capability was Xacti VPC-WH1 achilles heel. What would you buy now?

the cameras are the same design - different badges

low light - I agree - bust as the lens is only the size of a postage stamp.....

I have the other cameras for low light

but I would definately buy the same again

where did you say the water got in

I only ever open the battery door and I remove the card for dubbing onto a computer

I don't use the external lead

The cover over the card slot / HDMI socket (which I never used) and USB socket. It sort of toggles into position unconvicingly, and has to be moved every time the camera is used, one way or another, whether taking card in / out or plugging in with the lead.

I never moved the battery door - charged in situ. No water in battery compartment.

I'll never think of them as "intentionally immersable" again - I guess I was just expecting too much, really.
