WX ! - Out of Africa

They don't usually get predicted thus far east do they? How unusual is this - or is this a reporting thing as opposed to meteorolgical?

80% now. As I'm sure you know, mother nature will be bowling these things over to you at about one a week for the next two or three months, about half of them full hurricanes. Lets hope they all miss anywhere they can cause human misery.

Sorry, what I meant to say was; are TRS predictions usually given by the Met people for thunder systems so close to Africa or is this just something the media have picked up on and are padding out no-news day with it?

My recollection is they're usually flagged up much further West than this one, and in a much greater state of development.

Apologies for the confusing question.

ok... this won't make the general news unless/until it either gets huge or (mainly) if it threatens land/people somewhere. The OP picked it up from a specific hurricane-tracking website, which records/advises even if conditions are suitable for a storm to start - and put up the link... which is why you/we are getting much earlier info.

Dorian is beginning to look like a storm in a teacup atleastas far as the usa are concerned, ie it only counts if it hits yanks and/or cam affect advertising revenue. our local TV station has seeming stood down the chief meteorologist and brought out the summer intern for their every 10 minutes 'weather on the ones'coverage I imagine we will see some rain because we have a bottom paint job in progress and any excuse to add more labour hours to our bill will be grabbed with great delight...

Hum, windguru isn't exactly the perfect source for this sorta thing...

Spared . . this time. :D
