Looking through the latest edition on the MB&Y last night there's a missing notice reporting the loss of a Pearl 45. The notice quotes the name as "TOUCH OF CLASS". I dont know if it's a miss-print or the underwriters are still using the old documentation. The boats actual name is "TOUCH OF CLASS II". This cock up in the original claim documentation has already cost us several hours steaming round and round in circles off the Gurnsey coast and several more on the waiting pontoon in St Peter Port trying to passify and convince the French customs, the local plod and the insurance company that the owner of the Pearl had infact misled them with the name and SSR registration number. (In fact the Pearl wasn't even registered with the SSR). We were asured that after wasting countless hours of police and everybody elses time that this issue had been sorted out. It seems not. Either MB&Y have applied their usual accuracy to advert proof reading or the insurance company are still not using the corrected info. So if you see "TOUCH OF CLASS" in the south coast area check the pictures first before calling the law. The real one is a Humber 40, The imposter is a Pearl 45.

On behalf of the soon to be besieged owner of the real boat. Thanks.

Hmmm! Knowing you Chris-me-lad your posting has left me wondering if your boat is really the missing Pearl 45 and you have disguised it to look like a Humber 40. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Oooh, surely you cannot be suggesting that the Pearl has dissapeared itself 'coz nobody will buy it. Naughty you.
Although a thought has occured to me in that I think that the Pearl 45 is based on the old Humber 40 hull - fishy, eh?

What a thought ! Unfortunately mine’s only a 38 with mere 250 Mermaids. The missing beasty has big cats that, being a fellow poor church mouse. I couldn’t afford to turn over let alone start.

I know that Pearl bought the Humber moulds and for a time the used them but I believe they have changed for the later styles. I doubt if the boat got up and wandered off on it’s own, even if (like mine) it shows total disdain towards us mere mortals when it comes to matters like sea state etc.

But now you mention coincidences. While we were in St Hellier what should come into the marina but a Pearl 45 with absolutely no markings or names. Hmmm.

I can remember looking at Humber 40 touch of class, when it was owned by Pearl motor yachts, it was taken in as part ex against the new pearl, a pub and hotel landlord from Cowes owns it, and yes it has been for sale for a long time, as mike says who would want to buy it as it is nearly a one off production, dont know if they will be at the show? rumour has it around our way that my next door neighbour owns Pearl motor yachts, he bought it as a hobby I am told, and no he does not have one parked in his front garden!, when you posted this chris I somehow thought it must have been this boat.

The 40 you saw is the true Touch Of Class. Our friend bought it from Pearl's. Don't know about the heritage of the hull. We were told that the Pearl was up for sale because it didn't perform like the old 40. He even tried to buy the 40 back from the present owner. I don't know what's going on for sure. All I do know is it cost us a day of our holiday.
