I was too heavy-handed today, trying to plug my AH 2000+ into the fixed connection in the cockpit. Eventually I wasn't able to part the two bits, and I ended up pulling the wires out of the Autohelm power cable itself. There's no way to repair it myself, although I only need the pos and neg wires, and did think about just cutting the plug off and just using connectors! Not really a good fix.

I'll give Raymarine a ring in the morning, but wondered if anyone else had had this self-inflicted damage, and how did you deal with it?

The unit itself is fine (as far as I know), so to me it should be just a straightforward, but costly, power cable replacement by Raymarine.

Thanks.

Although it looks like a sealed unit I'm pretty sure that plug can be opened up and wires reconnected. I'm sure there is a big nut shaped bit that unscrews to let you in at it

Although the plugs look like sealed units the plugs can be opened up and reconnected the big nut undoes it.
If not get a bulgin buccaneer plug and socket and reconnect them

I thought that the AH2000+ used a standard Bulgin 6 pin plug & socket.
Fairly straight-forward to rewire. !2v +ve to pin 1, neg. to pin 2.
The only tool needed AFAIR is a small screwdriver.

I don't think they do proprietary Raymarine designs.

The original is a commercially available connector called a Bulgin Buccaneer.. as said, available from RS, Farnell or CPC
Not Raymarine proprietary at all.

There are a few different types within the Buccaneer series, and this is a new one that appears to replace the Raymarine fitted one, but with the 60 degree twist lock ( which seems like an improvement).instead of a fine thread that isn't best suited to regular use. .
The OP might have to replace both ends ( for compatibility), or getting the original instead.

The link was really just to give an idea of what the plug might look like. I noticed it wasn't the same as the one I have but a similar arrangement to get access to the termination points.

I did not want the Raymarine plug when i bought my AV100 (tiller) autopilot as I had trouble with my earlier one (2000). neither did I want a plastic one. I asked Mantsbrite to put a longer lead on it so I could have it in a protected position & to do away with all the extra wires. They just put a 2 core cable from the ram to a metal 2 pin plug. I then installed a 2 pin socket. This means that if I ever get hassle I only have 2 pins to worry about & I can easily clean them rather than mess about with the tiny pins of the original design.
The point of this being that if you find the pos & neg wires you can cut back the others (assuming you are not connected to any other systems) & fit a stronger 2 pin metal plug & socket, obtainable from any normal chandlery. If you do get any corrosion on the pins in the future, it is a simple cheap task to swop to a new plug & socket. The socket comes with a plastic cap for weather protection when not in use
