Your age is showing. They are not called WPCs any more but Police Officers, just as firemen are called firefighters in deference to lady firemen. Sailors are, however, just sailors.

I usually call them "Dame", in the same way I call a constable "sir"

Some years ago. 3 of us sitting in a van in central London were asked by a WPC for directions to a nearby pub. Turned out she was actually a stripogram. Being the kind peeps we are, we offered her a lift which she accepted even though it meant sitting on 2 of our laps. Good job she wasn't a real copper cos her wares got sampled on the way!

Loved the comment I heard once (Viz I think) about someones comments about the price of clothing a WPC was (say) £500
They recommending fit out at Ann Sommers where a wipe clean PVC, WPC outfit could be purchased for £19.99
