would you swap your boat

Yes. Bit bigger, lot newer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Know exactly what I want. Just need The 6 No,s Tonight. Never mind hlb,s little ceiling problem I,m in the middle of fixing a 45 x 14 foot flat roof whats fell on Me! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Saw it coming, hoped it might go away, didn,t though! So same boat for a while! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We've gone for Bigger AND newer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but for what we consider to be very valid reasons!

1) I was moving up north (well Farnborough!) so we wanted something with a little more space so we could be a bit more comfortable for regular overnighting
2) Somthing with enough space to be able to invite friends along now and again
3)I/We can't afford the running costs of a big twin engined boat, we're both on very modest incomes and don't have the ability to just find a few grand for x, y or z repair.
4) As well as being a comfortable cruiser we wanted something that would be suitable for wakeboarding towing rings etc We liked the Monterey250 but I wasn't sure the Yanmar would have the right power for the later..

Then came the new boat with the NEW engine!! It sounded like it would do exactly what we wanted, we tried it and it did..so a few months later once I'd sold my house the money I had left went straight onto the new 250, we've been very pleased with it and have used it as expected i.e LOTS

Yes that money could have bought us a lovely 30+ fter which would have been great when it worked, but I've been stung before when I only paid £9k for a boat (about 6 years old) and within 6 months of owning it I had a £2k bill /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I couldn't afford to risk being in that position, at least I have warranty now so only have to worry about fuel and service bills..

I take the other approch. I want a boat that will do just what it says on the tin. I want one that will take me where I want to go and still fit in quite small harbours or berths. If the weather turns a bit enroute, I expect it to cope. 5/6/7 if it has to. I dont want any complaints from the boat. And never have.

Dont believe in the warranty thingy. It never worked for me and is just a marketing tool as far as I can see.

Yep, if it was not for the divorce, or if my exwife had any interest in boats, just maybe I'd have bought a newer one. But not bigger one.

After seven years, it still does every thing I want.

Oh dear, another thread hijacked by gc1/h1/g1. FWIW, powerskipper, I've always followed the older 'n bigger route when buying boats. You get so much more plastic for your buck, somebody else has sorted out the teething problems and taken the depreciation hit and a point not often made, you get an oppurtunity to personalise the boat to your own tastes by replacing components with equipment that suits your needs better
