Would you paint replacement engine parts ?

Volvo Penta is green, new water pump not.

Concerned the paint will chip as its fitted or the cover is removed.
Not concerned about esthetics.
No water leaking over the engine.

Matching green hammerite ?

Or spray with ACF-50 ?
The Johnson water pump on my engine is a replacement I fitted. I can't see any need to paint it but obviously I do paint any steel components that might rust.

In 1983 I painted a Perkins 4236 Engine and Bilges in 2 pack paint with a brush.
In bilges (i believe) that 2 pack paint is better than Damboline as when it drys/sets it is impervious to diesel or petro.
Again over the years I have painted hulls/engines/bilges with a brush
With your Volvo engine I would get a car paint supplier to match the colour.
Mind you when I was hand painting the bilges in a yacht in the summer the vapour from the drying 2 pack was a but strong so I put the vacuum cleaner on the deck and extracted the fumes away.
PS Using ordinary coach paint I have painted over 100 commercial vehicles with a brush so its not as if I dont know the job and I once had 2 body shops using 2 pack

If it were me and I had the time, I would paint before fitting, certainly if it has steel that will rust.

Heard that ford meadow green is a good match and cheaper than volvo's paint, personally I just buy volvo's which seems to last well.

Hammerite dark green I have painted to the oil sump which is out of sight as it does look quite different to volvo's green, but hammerite simply last.

You can buy the undercoat paint & lacquer quite cheaply from any Volvo dealer!

I use SMT volvo's plant division much cheaper and easier nicer deal with.

I have a new water pump to install on a Volvo Penta MD2020. I have the Volvo green aerosol paint but wonder if it should be primed first so the paint adheres, Any advice much appreciated whether this is necessary or a primer that would work.

I threatened to paint the walls of my daughters bedroom "Volvo Engine Green" if she misbehaved.
Kind of worked when she was 5, doesn't work so well as now she is 17.

Lucky you didn’t blow yourself up. There’s a reason why spray booths are fully spark protected with explosion proof lights etc.
