Would you go up the mast when on the hard?

>too bouncy by far at sea<

Had a mate who was once bosun on Griffin, the RORC club boat. He had to go up the mast one dark and dreadful night to sort something out. It was bouncing around so much that he was sick. Because it was at night, the guys in the cockpit didn't see it coming.

Easing the tension off the rigging...

is probably the worst thing you can do for it. Biggest cause of failure of rigging is fatigue and this is far more likely if it is slack. If anything, tighten it up in winter because the coefficient of thermal expansion of the mast is higher than that of the shrouds, so it will slacken itself.

I haven't tried this whilst on the hard, but I imagine it would be a bit uncomfortable.......
