Last week while in Calais, we saw what was probably the worst (best?), foreign boat name we have ever seen....

Th GP14's at College were all named after stars ....... I was handed POLLUX ... now I know that many boats are called Pollux etc. after stars ..........
But when you've had a few ales after a days racing in Plymouth sound ... the name gets 'altered' !!!

My boat was named by an illiterate Beatles fan - "Hi Jude" A name that doesnt go down to well with the Germans. but its Pt 1 registered and when I had bought the boat I couldnt afford a name change as well, now I have got used to it.

Not quite so obvious, but a friend (rich friend) took delivery of his new, verrrrry expensive HR48 last year. He called it SUNA, for no other reason than it's reverse spelling. What a thing to do to a boat like that.

There is an oil trading company in Singapore with Mainland Chinese connections that has been building up its fleet of very large tankers ("VLCCS") by buying secondhand. The owner does not speak English and his Indian fleet manager does not speak Mandarin, but they are doing very nicely, thank you. The company's name is Titan Oil.
Their ships are named after the planets in the solar system, working outwards, all with the prefix "TITAN", so they are called "TITAN MERCURY", "TITAN VENUS", etc.
Just before Christmas last year they added another ship to the fleet, the previous one being TITAN SATURN...
Yes, they really did. And she's still called that.
Maybe nobody's dared to tell the boss?

To me it conjures up the image of an elderly couple on a slightly elderly boat of the type built more for comfort than speed, in which case, it's kinda sweet. But this was on a huge new superyacht - something like 75ft long with a garage in the transom. Yuk!
