Worn holes in stanchions - ideas for a plastic insert?

Our stanchions are solid aluminium. I cut some clear rope reinforced air hose to length. Slit it so I could install without taking the wires off and pushed them in to place. I have a cable tie on each side of the stanchion to hold the tube in place. Been there for a couple of years now and works fine. Tube is white, cable ties are white. All looks neat

It was suggested that I try duct tape round the wire. Thought "it will never last" but it has.

Depending on the size, I used short pieces of rubber fuel pipe squeezed into the holes which still allowed the wire to pass through comfortably. Low cost,

As a quick fix to prevent more wear at least, how about a section of biro/ felt pen split down the middle, secured with amalgamating tape ?!

suspect too brittle and what about UV?
