Worlds Cheapest Engine Temperature Guage

with alarm

+1 I too would like one with an alarm, but in the links mentioned here there is no mention of an alarm - save for the one that is advertised as a freezer monitor and that only goes up to 70c. Can anyone point us to one with an alarm. Thanks

Whats the panels view on hand held laser thermometers like this:

I am thinking dual use engine on the boat and the chimney on the wood burner at home and the one that's planned on the boat.

I've got one of those, around a tenner I believe, something like that.

It seems pretty good, but I've got nothing accurate to compare it against at high temperatures.
It's an instant read out, I found it very useful when diagnosing a recent overheat problem.
It gave the sort of figures I'd roughly expect, around 90degC on the rocker box, 280 or so on the exhaust then 45 on the exhaust after the water addition.
The angle it reads at increases dramatically as you get further away from the object, so you need to be able to get relatively close to whatever it is you're reading if you want accurate spot checks. (the field of view is stamped on the side of mine, very useful)
Also has a very useful scan function that gives instant readings as you wave it over the engine/exhaust.

Go with this one -http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Non-Contact-Infrared-Digital-IR-Laser-Thermometer-Probe-Temperature-Sensor-/271517740132?_trksid=p2054897.l5659

If he can do the same thing , cheaper and post-free from Hong Kong, then your guy, who can't even be bothered to stick it in a Jiffyu bag and post it to the Highlands and Islands, is possibly rippi... No - I'm not allowed to say that am I ?

Someone on here recently posted a link to these:

They're cheap and nasty, but at that price, I don't mind! They're so cheap, in fact, that I bought two of them (on the assumption that I'd be quite unlucky to have both fail at once!) and I now use one for the engine temperature and one for the exhaust. They're brilliant! I can set alarms (extra couple of quid for a couple of 85 decibel buzzers) at whatever temperature I like.

this link takes you to the 90 - 250v model and I stupidly bought one without reading the spec. I was of course wanting the 12v version.
