I have scoured the internet unsuccessfully to find a suitable product so I will now submit my query to the brains trust that is this forum! I am refurbishing an old yacht and one of my projects is to get rid of the old wood effect and dark formica worktop in the galley and either replace with white acrylic or with a 12mm white laminated plywppd sheet (from Robbins timber). One other reason to replace the old formica work top is to access the coolbox underneath and assess the state of the insulation, replace if necessary and refit a Waeco Cooling plate - cubic capacity is approx 80 litres - HR 352. These tasks are all within my limits but I have failed miserably to find an insulated lip manufacturer that I could then use in the next work top. I would ideally like a large (40 x 35/40 mm) concealed hinged lid but not sure how to go about finding a source of these lids. Any ideas? Happy New Year to you all and many thanks to you all for the information I manage to glean from this forum.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not cut the hole for the lid then put a rebate on the cut edge? Make the lid with a matching rebate. Trim all the cut edges with formica or whatever. Then use a neoprene strip to insulate it. That's how mine is done.

I have been having the same problem, I am building a replacement freezer of about 80l capacity. I have hunted around for a top loading insulated lid for a few years without success so I have bit the bullet and made a full size model to ensure that it will hinge properly and that the seals will work. This model is now being used to make a female mould from which a male mould will be produced!! From this we will be able to produce both the box top liner and the lid liner in GRP. They will need to be insulated and then attached to the freezer liner and the lid top, job done (hopefully) I am hoping the GRP laminator will have the first parts by the end of January so I can get on with the galley. I do not have the sizes with me at home but I will be seeing the laminator on Thursday so I should be able get the drawing and put a copy on the thread.

Will a very thick ( due to insulation) not be difficult to hinge ( if its a good fit then the insulation will catch) ?? Resort to no hinge and a recessed finger plate to lift out?

That’s exactly what I did when I made mine last year. Original work top lid - underside covered with 40mm Celotex and a 6mm UPVC sheet, edged with 50mm UPVC white angle with mitred corners. Nice tight joints lift out lid with two rows of “P" shaped Draught excluder on underside of lid.

Works really well and looks acceptable, you could always use some catches to compress the seal if you felt it needed it, I found it ok without.
Loads of photos of installation but can't find any of actual lid!

P.S What the OP is looking for is available in America but I found it too expensive for me to purchase - see link
