I'd like to exchange sailing for some specialized work on my sailboat. My teak decks are leaking and the water is getting inside so the plywood underneath is starting to rot. Help! My boat is a 32 foot East Orient and it's in Preveza, Greece for the summer.

Hopefully your tween deck plywood is made of marine ply and what you are seeing is the wood dye running down your white inside melamine internal bulkheads.

Do you know the depth of the remaining teak decking and what is the distance between each teak planking, probably 6mm (¼ inch)?

What is the condition of the teak deck, are they lifting or splitting and I presume each plank is held down with teak-capped screws?

My Atlanta had teak over ply. It didn't look too bad but after much probing with an awl and tapping I realised that the ply had to come off. The teak was worn thin and had been screwed down as David suggests. I replaced the Ply and reused the teak and the screwing method. With hindsight I should have glued the teak and avoided screws especially as there was not enough depth of teak to properly countersink the screws and cap.
We know you are a practical lass so will probably have made a good assessment of the condition and the work required. My own feeling ( though not having assessed the deck) would be to patch up and do the job ( preferably on the hard) in the autumn while the weather is still Ok.
I was able to do mine over 2 seasons. Foredeck one year then side and stern the next.
Good luck!
