Wording of Adv.

A friend of mine has retired… now the problem starts. He wants to go cruising in the Indian Ocean; his wife hates the yacht (nothing unusual about that I believe) and won’t go with him.

Now the problem is. Does he sell the yacht or his wife? He has expressed a desire to keep the yacht so he wants some suggestions on wording an advertisement to sell his wife.

So far all he has come up with is the old one “for sale ...wife Used only on a Sunday. Big mileage, solid body, with only a few dents. No guarantees given, plus will be sold on a “as is where is “basis.

Now knowing how creative some of the BBers are, I said to my friend, I would get some ideas from them….

Can you suggest anything to embellish the adv?

.. bit sparse ... the essential dynamics of the product aren't revealed too well ... potential purchaser must be convinced of what a bargain he's getting .. so ...

... get a makeover or, better still, picture of some attractive model (with v. small print saying "picture of a similar model") .... give it to a dating agency

here's the USP: your mate wonders morosely around unshaven unkempt (easy bit) whilst loads of blokes ring her up for a date ... eventually SHE decides to get rid of old model for new and your mate sails off into the sun ...

I seem to remember an ad by a guy who didn't fancy single handing.

"Female crew wanted for blue-water cruising. Must have reasonable bank balance, preferably dog-owner. Send details, and photo of dog, to...."

You could offer to let her retain use of credit card as incentive to new 'owner'.

Mind you, we all know the story of the guy who got a security call from his card issuer because the usage pattern had changed dramatically. He told them it was OK, it was stolen 2 months ago but the theives don't spend as much as his wife did.
