Strange to have one come so far up a river. Guess we'll be seeing Alert popping in and out the local marinas again over the next few weeks.

There were Border Force personnel and a Police launch at Shotley earlier this evening. Haven't noticed anything suspicious/remarkable, though.

Several people have been arrested by Border Force officials in Suffolk after two incidents involving suspected illegal immigrants.

Border Force officials and Suffolk police responded to reports yesterday afternoon at Woolverstone, near Ipswich, that people had come off a boat in the Orwell.

The vessel was seized and at least two people were arrested.

A group of people were then detained after a joint operation between Border Force officials and Suffolk police near the Cambridgeshire border.

A lorry was stopped between Fordham and Newmarket and 14 people were arrested.

I went down to RHYC yesterday afternoon and I saw police in reflective gear in the wood and their car parked by the football pitch. I naturally assumed they were trying to catch speeders on that single track stretch. There was a police launch loitering around the Woolverstone hammerheads - first police boat I have seen on the River in over 10 years!

Rosie and I had a beer and remarked on the police boat (not the Ian Jacob - smaller) and the three police cars in the club car park. Thanks to the OP for the explanation.

There was a Metropolitan Police boat, a Botnia Targa 31, in Shotley Marina yesterday. Think it was called John Marriott.

That would be the one that we saw, I think. Painted a bit like a police car.
