Researched it on-line, tracked down postings on the forum, even read the tin in the chandlery, in French! Decided to use it on a bare wood brand new cockpit table. One coat underneath and, so far, 3 on top. Starting to look very good and I'll probably give it a couple more coats before I take it back to the boat. There's only one problem with it … they don't mention it in International's web-blurb or in their publicity. Nobody mentioned it on the forum and it sure as hell doesn't mention it on the tin! …. IT STINKS !!! It smells absolutely foul! I can't imagine eating meals off the thing! Some varnishes give off quite a pleasant odour but not this one! I can only hope that when I've finished it I can leave it out in the elements for a couple of weeks and hope the smell goes away. If anyone's thinking of ever using it down below I can only suggest … don't!

Odd, I used a small tin last year and did not smell anything unpleasant. Very disappointed with product - used it on the coachroof grab rails and it has already worn off. I have come to the conclusion that it does not like salt water and have added this to the list of jobs to do later in the year using another product.

Every time I read about Woodskin I come to the conclusion that every tin is different . . . I'm in the process of using it in various places, inside and out, and will report back in a year or so - but I'm pleased so far.

That’s strange! I use it and have never noticed that. In fact I just stuck my nose in a half used tin to check, and nothing!

I think the OP has bought the French version.... too much garlic in it!

It stinks when it's being applied to teak, can't speak for any other wood. I've been leaving it out on the terrace and it does smell less after 24 hours.

Mine didn't smell bad, but as Webby says, mixed results. It's odd stuff but as I have a tin to use up I shall persevere...

It's been a while now, but I seem to remember that there might have been an odour on our teak cockpit table when last done in Woodskin but now, second season, obviously none at all. AND the table looks great after this time. Unlikely to need any attention this winter either. And we use the table as 'deck' to climb up and stow mainsail. So not just eating use.
