Some years ago, I believe at the Southampton Boat Show, I had some wooden name boards cut by a man who had a kind of guided routing machine and could cut lettering while you waited. I have been unable to find him since- does anyone know of him or anyone who does a similar thing?

We have guy on Exmoor who does all these kind of signs - usually in oak.

He says this is the most popular wording /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

but in reality he can do almost any words you want.

When fresh, the wood is, well, oak coloured !

Our nameboards were made by lightly drawing out in pencil the letters first, and then very carefully following them with a Dremel.

My father's very handy at these sorts of things and has done it before - if it's your first time, I'd definitely suggest practising first before setting to your virgin nameboards!!

I printed the name on the computer and then traced it onto the board with carbon paper. I've just ordered a base for the Dremel to keep it level which should make things easier. If nothing else it is a pleasant little project.

Yep! If you remember he carved mine for Englander, in old english script which he copied off the stern, by pencil then carved them with a router, freehand!! Bloody clever!

You got the good looks and some of the talent, now you see how I feel! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
