Wood v GRP

Wasn't there an article in last months mag about some bloke who had moved from wooden to GRP and did a comparison of his two boats. I'm sure he said the GRP was cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter. Not sure he mentioned which was quieter though.

A foam insulated GRP boat is certainly better than a wooden or GRP one so far as noise, condensation, heat, cold and sinking are concerned. At anchor the majority of noise is transmitted up the chain to the bow roller. The best way to eliminate this is with a rope strop pulled up to put a loop in the chain.

The hull shape is as much to do with noise as is the construction. Few wooden boats have a sugar scoop stern and that is a major cause of noise at anchor in my experience.
