Having just returned from two weeks on the River Thames, travelling up to Oxford and back I would like to say a big thank you to all the lock staff including the Volunteers that we encountered. They were all very friendly and had a smile and chat in spite of the very hot weather conditions and some working alone especially on the deep locks such as Marlow, Mapledurham and Sandford.

Just off for two weeks starting Saturday so hopefully will have a similar experience, can't stand all the moaners the river is always a fantastic.

Yup, no problems here! all the lock staff we come across are usually great.

It's the rentals and certain NB's/Barges which slow things down to a crawl at the locks. some are good, some are just pathetic...

Have done that trip a few times over the years , have always found the lockies great and the volunteers, but then if you are civil, usually you get civility back

always good locking, worst seen so far this year, was a rowing coach on the towpath near hambleden lock, who raced up on his bike, to a female cyclist who was halfway through the gate, started shouting at her, she stood her ground, the little man then started to scream and shout a bit louder at her and wave his finger a couple of inches from her nose. The woman continued the conversation until the little man threw his bike at her and the gate.He soon changed his tone and stance, when shouted at by two male onlookers, peddled his bike back as fast as he could in the direction of the rowing clubs. Fingers crossed the woman cyclist has someone to come and have a word with him, I doubt he would like that.
