Does anybody have any info on possible new pontoon at Wivenhoe for visitors supplied by the local council? Nothing on updates for the Colne on ECP website.
 
It is just inside the barrier, before you get to the walkway which sticks out from what used to be Cooks yard. It looks more suited to launching dinghies and canoes than it does for visiting yachts.
 
Wivenhoe Sailing club also have a pontoon better suited to visiting yachts (which can take the ground). Downstream of the barrier, however the outside berths are generally reserved for fishing boats.
 
Or go on up the river further and use the pontoon at Rowhedge, but you must be able to take the ground, and dont forget it will be a lot lower than you at low tide !
 
Pontoon at Colchester, Hythe. Nt the most picturesque but convenient to a large Tesco and B and Q 10 minutes, Italian restaurant 5 minutes and quite a few take aways close by:
