In my search for a suitable boat, would the following list be too much to ask for the prefered size and price i was hoping not to exceed.

1. Length 30-32 ft
2. Beam 10-11.6 ft
3. Construction all considered.
4. Engine/s Diesel pref shaft drive with service history.
5. An additional sail would be nice.
6. Cruise speed about 10knots, with plenty of power for rough water and strong tides.
7. Heating..Hot water..Shower..etc
8. Heads.
9. 12volt-240v + gas options
10. Anchor winch.
11. Full navigation equipment with all operators manuals.
12. All stainless fittings, ropes..fenders etc.
13. Wheelhouse and a Canopy.
14. Tender with suitable engine hung on davits.
15. Fully fitted Gally, oven..sink..fridge..freezer etc etc.
16. Good past ownership with all boat history.
17.Plenty of storage space, suited to live aboard 9 months a year, also suitable to use off shore for fishing and the odd trip to the Med.
18. Economical to run and to maintain.

What do you think would be the chances of finding one, or do i opt for the nearest next best.

What's the budget? Most of your objectives seem achievable although liveaboard with lots of storage on that size could be a challenge. 10 knots for 30/32 feet is probably at the limits for a displacement boat (which might accommodate a sail). Sails on MOBO's are either to steady the motion or you are talking about a motorsailer which at that length is likely to struggle at much over 8 knots. Mind you, in a gale...

Most people don't know what they need until they are on their third or fourth boat IMHO. My father went through 5 MOBOs in 20 years so I had a fair amount of experience to draw on when looking myself. Even now what I have is a compromise.

Good luck, Mike

I think the word compromise is required here.

You may find 80% of these items on one boat and then I would seriouly consider it unless you are haviing the boat made from scratch.

Re: budget.

got to be around 60k for all that I would have thought, maybe more.
Corvette 32 is the only thing I can think of that is likely to have all those items.

Think out of the box and you are almost describing a larger sailing catamaran 37-40'). Some of them will motor at up to 9 knots, and have plenty of accomodation plus "steadying sails".

Probably about the same cost as your 30-32' mobo and the running costs will be much less

I think I had better duck back below the parapet now! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I think you are as likely to fulfil point 18 on a motor boat as you are to find rocking horse shite....

Catamarrans are fine if you are 4' 6".... And they wont be going fast into a head see that is for sure.

Mid you they do have a lot of windows if you like window boxes...........

Why the steady sail... Are you a closet raggie or are you just amusing them??

Too late to go below

I am actually 6' 2" and have plenty of room in mine, and it is only 29' long.

All sails act as a steadying sail, so it was a bit of a play on words!

Cheers lads.
Let me see if i can enlighten on a few items.
First my intended budget was £18.000 to £20.000, now looks like stretching it to £30.000, god thats £1000 a foot.

Cat's are out.

Why a sail??Dunno, just felt that i would like one, even if i don't use it. Can't sail a boat even though i own one at the moment. Anyone want to buy it??? Vivacity 21.

Suppose i could simply go back to my short list from the ones i have found so far, Emm lets see, only two, the Viksund 31 and a Madeira 27. The Madeira??? something just don't seem to grab me on this one even though it is 4k below my bottom budget. It's a nice boat but i have the feeling that after a few weeks i would want to exchange it, dunno why.

The Viksund 31 motor cruise/sailer seems OK good sea boat, and at the lowest end of my budget i could afford to spend a few grand on it. Now i do like this one but but but, still unsure.

Ah well, winter is coming so i'll keep looking, something else might turn up.

There was a boat sold in the UK a few years ago called an Eagle 32 which was a traditional looking displacement boat which would'nt cost too much to run and was pretty seaworthy. Even had a steadying sail fitted, if memory serves. Might be a bit above your budget though
Another one to look at might be the Colvic Watson 28 which is a similar type of displacement boat

Italcraft Aermar 36 ... 1980 ... 2x Aifo 270's diesel .. & goes very well indeed... located in Salerno, Italy (was beside the one I bought... 45 ft ... see "My Italian Job.....".) ... have written up a few things abut her and got a few more pics from my journeys .... let me know if you want more info... been 4 sale about 9 months so would go below the €40K asking price... season is over there now and it takes something to understand these guys .... could be a very nice boat with some TLC and a couple of £K's spent on her on upgrades...
